This picturesque vineyard established by Russell and Linda Hubbard is situated 19Kms along the scenic Scotsdale Road Tourist Route in Denmark, W.A. Its valley aspect with rich Karri loam’s and gravely soils combined with the north facing slopes of the Bennett Ranges makes this site an ideal location for growing cool climate wine grapes.

On the 1st January 2000 the Hubbard Family exchanged the hustle and bustle of the city for the pristine environment of Denmark. Their dream was to produce premium wines and to accomplish this they adopted a “No Compromises” ethos.

By late 2000 they had completed planting the vineyard to Merlot, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Hubbards believe there is middle ground between organic and contemporary viticultural practices and have proven that by combining both disciplines sensibly, they can produce stunning fruit.

Having planted the Estate Vineyard they then constructed an Estate Winery in which their winemaker Mr. John Wade has complete control throughout the winemaking process. James Halliday quotes John Wade as being “arguably the most experienced Winemaker in Western Australia”.

The combination of Russell and Linda’s passion, hard work and total commitment to viticultural excellence and John’s unrivalled Winemaking ability is evidenced by their premium wines.

See our website at www.ricketygate.com.au

You can join their Wine Club to enhance your enjoyment of this delightful winery and cool climate vintages.

Somerset Hill Wines
This is only possible because of our special relationship between soil, climate and geographical location. Our vines have a short cool summer in which to accumulate flavours and ripen on the highest vineyard in the Denmark wine-growing region.

Constant wind, summer rain and cloud make viticulture a veritable challenge. Our North facing slopes and free draining soils provide us with the chance to produce wine as unique as our location.

Wine produced are all 100% estate grown and the varities planted are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. From these grapes Somerset Hill produce a varietal of each, Methode Champenoise from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and a blend of the whites to provide a choice of wine for you to enjoy.

Champagne and Chocolates. Somerset Hill now offer a range of Belgium chocolate truffles made in white, dark and milk chocolate available in eight different flavours - Champagne, Rum, Kahlua, Macadamia, Cointreau, Fruits of Passion, Cocktail Dream and Grand Marnier. These are pure indulgence for the connoisseurs of quality.

Somerset Hill Wines was the first winery to do a full Methode Champenoise (Champagne) from 100% estate grown fruit in Denmark back in 1999. Since then production has risen to over 1,200 cases per year and about to double again soon. Two styles are made a blend of Pinot Noir, pinot Muenier and Chardonnay. Also a drier style a Blanc De Blanc, made of 100% chardonnay. Generally spending a minimum of two years in the bottle before being disgorged and made ready for sale. Our wines grace the tables of some of the best restaurants in Europe and Australia. We now export our wines to the UK, Russia, Poland, Denmark.

The Toffee Factory & a bit on the side
You may have seen our goodies at outlets Australia wide...but they're all made here, in spectacular Denmark, Western Australia.

It's sticky business since 1996 Jon and Gill, of JJs, have been tormenting the sweet-toothed population with their gooey goodies. It began as a small pot of ideas bubbling away in the goldfields and over several years the addiction has spread throughout Australia.

A huge range of flavoured toffees and nutty brittles are made in the traditional English manner from a timeless family recipe.

Do you fancy a bit on the side? Also home to the famous "a bit on the side" range of gourmet sauces, preserves, chutneys, salsas, tapenades, dressings and olives. The impressive range is stocked by gourmet stores across Australia and you can taste it all here. Everyone loves a bit on the side and you know it has to be good or we wouldn't let you try it!

Elephants Rock Cider Company made in denmark time - but worth the wait. Keen to keep up with worldwide trends, Jon and Gill have set up Denmark's first cider factory. A light fresh crisp taste has been created from Great Southern fruits, making an easy-drinking alternative for a long cool refreshing drink.

The factory is located on a picturesque rural property in William Bay. Everything is made on site.

There are lots of tasting samples to tempt you and products are available in varying quantities and styles of packaging, designed either to take home as the perfect gift or to eat now - if you can't wait!

You are welcome to stay and enjoy the lovely surroundings, maybe have a cider in the garden, bring a picnic if you wish, followed of course by one of Australia's biggest and best cones.

Open daily 9:30am - 4:30pm.

Whitfield Estate, Picnic in the Paddock Café and Pawprint Chocolate
WINES…The range of Whitfield Estate wines have achieved success at wine shows across Australia. The vineyard was first planted in 1994, these days Graham and Kelly use a ‘hands-off’ approach and allow nature to do the work. In more recent years the canopy management has been changed to achieve consistent ripening, particularly in the red varieties. The wines are made under the careful guidance of Dave Cleary, Senior Winemaker at West Cape Howe wines. Sample the Whitfield Estate range at the cellar door with the wines available for tasting and purchase or enjoy a glass with lunch.

CAFE'…Quality home-style cooking with a menu that has something for everyone. Visit the warm and comfortable café with stunning close-up views of giant jarrah and marri trees set amongst the rolling farmland. ‘Picnic in the Paddock’ café uses local fresh produce. Marron is sourced from a farm just a few kilometres away, the beef from Denmark and the vegetables are sourced from neighbouring properties when the season allows. There is something for the kids too as well as a selection of delicious cakes and biscuits all made on-site. All this matched perfectly with a glass of Whitfield Estate wine or a freshly made barista coffee…mmm….

CHOCOLATE… Named after our lovable Bernese Mountain Dogs, Mac and Bud our range of chocolates is just like them… fun, friendly and family focused. After learning more about the art of chocolate making in Melbourne in early 2010 Kelly starting experimenting with different flavours and styles of chocolate for the Pawprint range. After many trials (and complaints from friends about the amount of chocolate they were asked to try) our range now has over 20 flavours - with more to come. Many are everyday foods teamed with good chocolate and by using only fresh quality ingredients it makes them something special. The base chocolate we use is a Cadbury product made in Australia and all Pawprint chocolates are hand-made right here at Picnic in the Paddock. What’s your favourite?

CHEESE…Chris Vogel is the cheese maker, owner and creator of Dellendale Creamery. Chris has a degree in cheese making and worked as a cheese maker in Switzerland for 10 years. After arriving back in Australia Chris set about building his own cheese factory. After years of research and juggling work commitments Chris produced his first batch of cheese in early 2010. Located under the shadow of Mt Lindesay the milk travels a mere four kilometres from dairy to factory. Dellendale Creamy cheeses are currently only available at Picnic in the Paddock Cafe'. Available for tasting and purchase.

We are OPEN from 10am-5pm Thursday-Monday (subject to change during winter months). Daily during School Holidays. Functions by arrangement. Bookings 08 98 409 016

Castelli Estate
Wines available at Denmark Liquor Store, by email order or via website. Tastings done by appointment, please phone 9848 3832.

Glancing down the valley from the hills of Mt Shadforth, you will see what is one of Western Australia’s most beautiful, and eye catching wineries – Castelli Estate. From its Tudor style architecture and the winery’s stone walls, or the grand arches in our underground barrel room or under our winery’s acutely pitched roof, the facility evinces beauty to match its functionality.

Castelli’s winemakers concentrate on achieving symmetry in each wine. For white wines the interaction of fruit intensity, acid profile, phenolic extraction and oak (if used) are carefully assessed. Likewise in the reds, there is a delicate balance aimed for between tannin structure, fruit definition, alcohol level and oak integration.

Since the wineries inception in 2004, the wines have built up a cult following as well as amassing a impressive number of medals and trophies, including the 2011 Riesling scooping the pool at WA’s biggest wine show, The Perth Royal Wine Show, with trophies for Best West Australian Wine, the Best Western Australian White Table Wine and Best 2011 Vintage Dry White Table Wine. Wine scribes have also fallen in love with Castelli wine style, with the winery rated 5 stars in James Hallidays Wine Guide.

Estate 807
Estate 807 has been in the hands of Stephen and Ola (a Swede who resides in "Denmark"!) since 2009. The scenic vineyard is approximately 4.2 hectares, comprising some of the best clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They also have Cabernet Sauvignon and new Sauvignon Blanc vines.

The vineyard at Estate 807 has a perfect terroir for cool-climate wines. The soils are karri-loam and there is a micro-climate within the valley that has cool nights and long warm days, perfect for slow-ripening of the fruit.

Stephen and Ola are animal-lovers and this is apparent by some of the photos on the website (www.estate807.com). They have three generations of English Cocker Spaniel - Pebbles (the grandma and red-wine lover!), Xena (her daughter, and crazy roo-chaser!) and Hugo (her grandson, the "Boss"). You will notice their names on the labels on some of their wines. They also have a herd of Alpacas - they are extremely tame and love human company - so let the kids feed them at the vineyard while you enjoy the wines at the cellar door.

The cellar door is modern and backs on to the fantastic rows of Pinot Noir vines.

Moombaki Wines
MOOMBAKI is a small, family run winery committed to making distinctive hand-crafted wines.

The vineyard was established in 1997 by David Britten and Melissa Boughey on their property which borders the pristine Kent River (between Denmark & Walpole). A gentle north-facing slope, gravelly soils, and temperate climate all work their magic on low-yielding vines.

MOOMBAKI is renowned for producing wines that are consistent high-award achievers (including a Halliday 5 star rating) and for their ecological approach to the vineyard and wetlands. Producing wines on a small scale allows them the freedom to do it well; hand-picked parcels of fruit, minimal intervention winemaking, and excellent oak handling allow the wines to express the character of their terroir.

Wines include:
- 2007 Reserve
- 2007 & 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec
- 2008 Shiraz
- 2009 Chardonnay
- 2010 Classic White

What is the meaning of the name Moombaki? It is a local Aboriginal word meaning “where the river meets the sky” – a perfect description of the topography. The vines were planted on gentle slopes overlooking the meandering Kent River, protected from the strong south-westerly winds by 600 acres of river reserve.

The Old Kent River vineyards are located in the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia, where they receive the cooling influence of the Southern Ocean 50 km to the south.

The outstanding reputation of Old Kent River, as reflected in the five star rating given by James Halliday in his Wine Companion Book, is very largely due to the high quality of its Pinot Noir and Diamondtina.

Award winning PREMIUM WHITE & RED WINES on offer include:
- Diamondtina
- Chardonnay
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Burls (Reserve Pinot Noir)
- Shiraz

For its Cellar Door Sales, Old Kent River rented a traditional old dance hall that is located on the South Coast Highway, half way between Denmark and Walpole and only 18km from the famous tree top walk. This cellar door offers travelers the opportunity to taste the full range of Old Kent River wines, including the limited release Burls Pinot Noir and Diamondtina Sparkling Wine.

While visiting this cellar door, you will also have the opportunity of enjoying a meal based around marron, the delicious local freshwater crustacean, and lamb, both of which are reared on Mark and Debbie’s property. The salads are made from produce grown by Debbie in her garden. There are also three main desserts including a home-made Apple Pie, which was featured in the Food Magazine Delicious.
