Denmark Animal Farm & Pentland Alpaca Stud
The farm is designed to be as interactive as possible, giving visitors a special opportunity to really connect with the animals.
Enjoy nursing a rabbit or newborn lamb, cuddling a kangaroo joey, patting a koala, hand feeding and stroking an alpaca – children and adults alike will just love getting up close to the animals.
There is “Tyson” a huge North American Bison, hairy Scottish Highland cows (and calves) and lots of other animals including ferrets, foxes, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, Asian buffalo, llamas, horse, camel, donkeys, pig, emus, aviary birds and more.
The koalas are fed at 10am, which is the best time to catch them awake and bottle feeding of the farm babies is at 3pm daily. Depending on what arrivals we have throughout the year, the bottle fed babies include calves (including Scottish Highlands), lambs, kid goats, piglets and joeys.
Pentland Alpaca Stud imported the first alpacas into Western Australia in 1990, and have been breeding and showing alpacas ever since. A family business that was started by Laurie and Margaret Binks on what was originally a dairy farm. It is now owned and operated by their daughter Debbie and her husband Steve Maddams.
The large craft gallery at the farm is located in the former herring-bone dairy, with the dairy “pit” now a feature fish pond. There is a huge range of alpaca clothing in stock all year round including jumpers, jackets, capes, ponchos, scarves, beanies, and gloves. Plus the ever popular fluffy alpaca teddy bears, blankets, raw fleece and 8ply yarn.
Debbie’s sister, Wendy Binks, is a well-known Western Australian artist and author. The craft gallery boasts a huge selection of Wendy’s original paintings, ceramics, prints, mugs, magnets and more.
Wendy is the writer and illustrator of popular childrens book “Where’s Stripey”, winner of the WA Premier’s book award. Her second book “Scrambled Egg” was also shortlisted for this prestigious award. These books along with “Stripey” soft toys and an activity book are also available at the farms craft gallery.
Other items in the gallery include soft toys, puzzles, jewellery, local souvenirs, Denmark’s famous “Door Harps”, Santalia products and more.
There is also a special shelf in the craft gallery dedicated to fundraising for the Bali orphans and Eran Svigos clinic in Mengwi, Bali. Most of the items have been made by Bali children, such as wrist bands and book marks. 100% of proceeds from these sales go directly to the orphanage and clinic for important medical supplies. Go to their website to see what a worthwhile cause this is: www.balikids.org

DONATED TO THE DENMARK VISITOR CENTRE by Michael Cartwright is the very large VIEW FROM REX'S ROCK print on vinyl. Before visiting the Visitor Centre to admire this 6 metre by 1.5 metre reproduction read the following story behind its existance.
IT WAS A HOT SUMMERS day when I climbed the south side of Mount Hallowell. It was a steep rocky incline, definitely not for the faint hearted but on arriving at the top, I was mesmerised by the panoramic view before my eyes. Conditions were perfect, so using my camera I quickly took a seris of sequence shots before the light changed and the magic of the moment was captured.
These photos were used as my reference for the oil painting ''View from Rex's Rock'', so named as the rock in the foreground resembled the Dinosaur ''Tyrannosaurus Rex''.
I was commissioned to paint this picture by locals, Bruce and Keir Mulder who directed me to the vantage point high up and to the rear of their property on Bimbimbi Way off Lights Road. I later discovered that accessibility was much easier from the east via the Bibbulmun Track.
Prints of ''View from Rex's Rock'' are available in any size from the Visitor Centre in canvas, matte or gloss. Please enquire at the front desk.

Jonathan Hook Studio Ceramics
Ceramics is my life: A fascination with earth and fire to transform it into stone, finding inspiration through the landscapes of the south coast. Timeless values of form and technique are the basis for design and manufacturing principles in the handcrafting of over 100 different shapes. The gallery has spectacular views of Scottsdale Valley, showcasing Art Series Vessels and Vases, Sculptural Art and extensive Tableware ranges by the very talented WA Ceramic designer. "My interest in clay started in 1972 at age 17. As a young artist, the isolation of this area enabled me to develop my own style. The majesty and grandeur of the south coast landscape inspires a timelessness that I incorporate into the design process. My work encompasses many ranges in contemporary shapes and colour combinations. With so many trends and styles in food, versatility and function are of the utmost importance to me. My inspiration and techniques are an eclectic combination of classic forms and structures from Europe and Asia, of which I find the latter more spontaneous and naive. In addition to the 600 items of tableware, I craft a range of vases and ceramic artworks.

Moombaki Wines
MOOMBAKI is a small, family run winery committed to making distinctive hand-crafted wines.
The vineyard was established in 1997 by David Britten and Melissa Boughey on their property which borders the pristine Kent River (between Denmark & Walpole). A gentle north-facing slope, gravelly soils, and temperate climate all work their magic on low-yielding vines.
MOOMBAKI is renowned for producing wines that are consistent high-award achievers (including a Halliday 5 star rating) and for their ecological approach to the vineyard and wetlands. Producing wines on a small scale allows them the freedom to do it well; hand-picked parcels of fruit, minimal intervention winemaking, and excellent oak handling allow the wines to express the character of their terroir.
Wines include:
- 2007 Reserve
- 2007 & 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec
- 2008 Shiraz
- 2009 Chardonnay
- 2010 Classic White
What is the meaning of the name Moombaki? It is a local Aboriginal word meaning “where the river meets the sky” – a perfect description of the topography. The vines were planted on gentle slopes overlooking the meandering Kent River, protected from the strong south-westerly winds by 600 acres of river reserve.
Visit www.moombaki.com for more information.
OPEN 7 days, 11am to 5pm
