Denmark Wildlife

There are ample opportunities to see a number of different kinds of native animals in and around the Denmark area.

Whale Watching

Southern Whales and Humpback Whales can be sighted from July to October as they migrate along the southern coast.  There are many view points along the Denmark coast where the whales can be sighted, a popular spot being Conspicuous Cliff Beach.

Whales have been known to sometimes spend a few hours at Ocean Beach near the surf life saving club.  Another good viewing location is Lights Beach which has an elevated viewing platform above the beach.  Middleton Beach in Albany, around a 40 minute drive east of Denmark, is also a great spot for whale watching.

Whale whatching tours are also available, contact the Denmark Visitor Centre for more information.

Bottlenose dolphins are another marine animal commonly seen along Denmark's coast line.  Groups of dolphins can often be seen surfing through the waves in the early morning.

Kangaroos

Kangaroos are commonly sighted around the Denmark area.  Driving through the Denmark countryside you will almost certainly spot kangaross particularly around dusk.  Be sure to take care whilst driving though.

Bird Watching

Over 160 species of birdlife can be found in the Denmark area. Wilson Inlet is a popular spot for many migratory birds and sea eagles, hawks and ospreys can also be seen.  Wilson Inlet is also a breeding area for WA's black swan.  Contact the Denmark Visitor Centre for information about the many species of birds in the Denmark area.
