Taste Great Southern - WA 'Long Lunch' Weekend

Friday It’s the WA Labour Day long weekend and all roads lead to Albany & Mt Barker for a gastronomic escape in Australia’s newest tourism region, ‘The Amazing South Coast’. Albany is the perfect base to enjoy this weekend’s festivities. Give yourself more time to explore and take the short 45 minute Rex flight from Perth to Albany. There are plenty of accommodation choices from 3 star motels to 5 star luxury hosted accommodation. Our festival accommodation partners are Quality Suites Banksia Gardens & The Beachhouse at Bayside.
Saturday The festivals first event, Graze Mt Barker, is the perfect opportunity to experience some of Mt Barkers most awarded wineries and local produce. Busy Blue Bus will take care of the driving duties so you can relax and simply ‘graze’ all day on their Mt Barker Grape Escape Tour*. Relax and enjoy a shared platter lunch of local produce, peruse artworks and meet the winemakers and vineyard owners.
Sunday This morning, make your way to the Albany Visitor Centre, to jump aboard a festival transfer and join in the fun at the 2018 Porongorup Wine Festival* in Karridale. 2018 sees the Porongurup Wine Festival enjoying it's 30th year Anniversary. Enjoy a day of live music, fine wines, local food stalls and entertainment. Watch culinary creations in the making at the One Wok Wonder and cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs. Join one of the fun Wine Masterclasses. Grab a friend and compete in the Grape Stomping competition for fantastic prizes. The festival transfers return all guests to the Albany Visitor Centre. *Transfer tickets are recommended to be reserved in advance with Busy Blue Bus. www.busybluebus.com.au
Monday Before heading home today, there’s plenty of time to explore some Albany’s tourism icons including the National Anzac Centre on an Albany History & Highlights Tour*. Enjoy the stunning views from Mt Clarence and learn about the incredible stories of Albany’s Anzac past in this, the centenary year of the end of WW1. Visit the site of the first, documented Anzac Day Dawn Service in Australia. Now that’s a great long weekend!
